GBS – Not only a pathogen for neonates (#336)

This is a retrospective observational study of all invasive GBS infections (Blood, CSF, and fluid from synovia, peritoneum, pleura , pericard and corpus vitreum in Västra Götaland, Sweden during 2003-2016. Information about GBS isolates was obtained from the 4 clinical bacteriological laboratories in the region.was obtained . A total of 1244 GBS infections were found in 1050 patients. There were 192 neonates (< 28 days), 64 children (0-18 years), 484 adults (18-64 years and 504 adults (≥ 65 years). The incidence rates were  The incidence rates for neonates were 0.75/1000 live births, and for children 17, adults 3.5, and elderly 13/100,000 inhabitants. 66 (34 %) of the neonates were preterm and 12 had premature rupture of the membranes. Many children had malignant disease, congenital heart disease or Mb Down. Almost all adults and elderly had concommitant diseases, most commonly cardiovascular disease with previous myocardial infarction, angina pectoris or stroke.
