Manfred Rohde
After studying biology at the University of Göttingen with Microbiology as the main subject and receiving his PhD title in 1983 he worked as a post-doc at the Institute for Microbiology in Göttingen as an electron microscopist. After a year abroad as a Research Associate in the Biochemistry Department at University of Adelaide (1985-1986) working on quaternary structures of enzymes and immuno labelling studies, he went back to Göttingen as a post-doc. In 1988 he joined the Microbiology Department of the former GBF (now Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, HZI) in Braunschweig as a Senior Scientist in the electron microscopy lab. In 2007 he became project leader for molecular mechanisms of streptococci. In 2008 he received the habilitation from the University of Braunschweig in microbiology and was appointed associated professor. In 2013 he took over as acting head for the Department of Medical Microbiology (until 2016) and was in addition head of the Central Facility for Microscopy of the HZI until 2021. He acted also as head of the ombudspersons of the HZI from 2010-2020 and as speaker of the ombudspersons of the Helmholtz Research Association (HGF) in Germany from 2018-2021.
