Derren is a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Public Health Infections at UK Health Security Agency South West. His main duties focus on microbiology diagnostic test interpretation, infection prevention control and outbreak management in Health/Social Care settings and community institutions. His research has focused on the identification and characterisation of pathogenic bacteria and viruses in people during disease and outbreaks. He has published 72 peer reviewed papers, 8 book chapters and 1 review, and has a strong interest in health inequalities, environmental microbiology, epidemiology and genomics.
